We have tremendously sad news to share with you: Elena Rodríguez-Espinar, “la nostra Elena / our Elena”, passed away on 2 March 2016. It is impossible to express with words how much she meant to all of us. And how much she has contributed to our association and humble pro-European efforts over the last ten years.
Elena was peace and serenity in tense moments and she has made us laugh a lot. Together have we dedicated so many, countless, hours to pro-European projects without asking for anything in return. Her firm integrity and boundless sense of justice, her professionalism and engagement, her humanity and creativity were the spark and sparkle of so many projects. We went through tough times together and duly celebrated many success stories, too. She was a founding member and secretary of Horitzó Europa / UEF Catalonia, a founding member and secretary of UEF Spain and a member of the UEF Federal Committee (2013-2015, nominated) at European level. Above all, she was the soul of our civil society association (an informal yet heartfelt designation).
Elena, you were a great friend and, for many of us, one of our closest friends. You used to say “This is not fair, but we have to move on.”. Your unbreakable sense of justice, constructive criticism and boundless humanity will guide us on this journey we started.

“Horitzó Europa” (Horizon Europe in Catalan) is a plural, Catalanist and pro-European association legally established in Catalonia since 2008, that intends to be open to everyone.
The idea of this association was born upon realising the gap between Catalonia's citizens and Europe's ongoing construction process. This gap hinders political, economic and social debates in Catalonia and triggers a perception of Europe as a bureaucratic and alienated structure which is reluctant to take into account its own diversity. Therefore, it is about time to reinforce Catalonia's traditionally pro-European, Mediterranean and internationalist vocation.Read more...
During a European Dinner in Brussels, Albert Royo, Secretary General of the Pulic Diplomacy Council of Catalonia, appointed last January, explained the main goals of this new body of the Government of Catalonia. Royo argues that, unlike traditional diplomacy, public diplomacy can set forth the plurality of visions of the country. In this sense, the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia is a bound to play a very active role in explaining the process of self-determination opened in Catalonia to the world.
